Difference Between Chart Date Range & Dashboard Date Range?

Difference Between Chart Date Range & Dashboard Date Range?

The industry standard dictates that graphs within all widgets show the metrics for the last 12 months by default. Although the number on the top of your widget may show the date range you’ve chosen, the chart will always display the data from the last 12 months.

If you want your chart to display day-per-day, weekly, or custom date activity, you need to select CUSTOM WIDGET when creating one.

More on how to add custom widgets here.

NOTE: If you are creating a Google Analytics chart, you will have to be logged in to your Gmail account (within your browser) for that specific GA account that you want to connect.

In the example below, you can see two charts displaying Visits from Organic within Google Analytics. The left chart shows the industry standard which by default displays the metrics for the last 12 months.

If you want to opt for PER DAY, or PER WEEK, or custom date range, you need to follow the 4 steps shown below:

Step 1: Create a custom widget for the integration of your choice, in this case, it is Google Analytics.
(NOTE: the Custom option is all the way down within the Select Widget bar)

Step 2: Choose the Segment you want to show (Organic Traffic for example)

Step 3: Choose the Dimension. This step is crucial. If you want to display day-per-day metrics, make sure you select Day of the Month. (see picture below)

Step 4: Choose the Metrics you want to display in your dashboard.
(Note: Unlike Facebook, Google Analytics refers to visits as Sessions)

NOTE: The same procedure is used for any other type of widget. Just make sure you select Custom Widget and opt for the Dimension (date range) you want.
